Editors' note, August 7, 2012: This story has been updated to include the Google Nexus 7. Note, however, that we expect both Amazon and Barnes & Noble to introduce updated e-book readers and tablets before the end of 2012. There are also continued rumors that Apple may introduce a smaller, cheaper iPad Mini. In the meantime, the comparisons below are limited to the currently available product lines of all companies.
Shopping for an e-book reader? At first glance, the task seems daunting -- there are more choices than ever before. The good news is that the list of worthwhile choices is actually fairly short. The other good news? Prices and features are better than ever.
