weird question, I know, but thats really bothered me for some time. how do you cut a cake with a huge fondant figurine standing on top of it? do you just take it off? or do you just ignore that piece of the cake? or do you attempt to cut through it

Usually the fond is cut after it's pasted nicely measuring properly. But for amateurs they are sure to make mess here and there by also cutting the cake but professionals are of different level.

You will have to cut it with the fountain. Fountain is just to make them look equal and to make the cake strong. Its just made up with butter and sugar.
