Google's new Nexus 7 tablet and Microsoft's Surface tablet
Gasp! What would Steve Jobs say?
Citing their sources at component suppliers, Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg say Apple is getting ready to release a smaller iPad this fall. With display measuring less than 8 inches, it will challenge other tablets with 7-inch displays, including Amazon's Kindle Fire and Google's new Nexus 7 tablet and Microsoft's Surface tablet. The current iPad's screen is 9.7 inches.
Jobs had said in 2010 that 7-inch tablets would be a "tweeners," too big to compete with smartphones, and too small to compete with an iPad.
