0 is both a number and the numerical digit used to represent that number in numerals. It fulfils a central role in mathematics as the additive identity. As a digit, 0 is used as a placeholder in place value systems. This was a translation of the Sanskrit word shoonya which means empty.

Somewhere I heard it was invented by an Indian. It seems so common and so less but the importance is as great as that of the ocean.
