Sand flies belong to family Psychodidae of the order Diptera. Phlebotomus argentipes is the most widespread species in the Asia.. It is a troublesome and nocturnal pest. Its bite is very irritating and painful. Normall, the pests dies after deposition of one-batch eggs. It is vector for diseases called Kala-azar and also causes phlebotomus fever.
