Most myiasis-causing flies belong to one of three major families: Oestridae, Sarcophagidae, or Calliphoridae, although representatives of other families, such as Muscidae and Phoridae, also are known to cause myiasis.A method that can be used for humans but not livestock is education. Certain activities in endemic areas will increase the risk of infection, wearing damp clothes, or resting in sandy areas that are likely to have been soiled should be avoided.
