Dark Passage (1947) is a Warner Bros. film directed by Delmer Daves and starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. The film is based on the novel of the same name by David Goodis. It was the third of four films real-life couple Bacall and Bogart made together.
The film received mostly positive reviews when it was first released, and again when it was released on DVD in 2004.

It is a gimmick film, but the gimmick doesn't just serve its own purpose it highlights a theme of faces, and what faces tell you about the person beneath. it works to the positive for this film.

Everything just falls too neatly into place, and once Bogart has his face transformed, he doesn't really get involved in too much hard detective work on his own before easily stumbling onto the real killer's identity. One begins to wonder why he even bothered with the plastic surgery.

The film has a great style, as it offers a view of the San Francisco of the 1940s in ways that hadn't been seen before. The director was lucky to be able to open up the book in excellent ways to keep the viewer hooked from the start.
