Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) has been in operation for mare than Eleven years . In the process of being established, it was given affiliation by Kathmandu University in December, 1997. Initially managed by charity international Nepal (CIN) the management was handed over to Kathmandu Medical College on 1st may 2000 for smooth running. KMC was registered on2057/01/16under the company act of 2053.
The primary objective of KMC is to provide quality medical education with in modern academic environment to produce qualified medical professionals who can connbtribute to the larger society by means of their based as well as problem and need based
Kmc aims to develop into a center for excellence, setting new standards in medical education and high quality medical care . It develop socially accountable health work force in the nation through it’s educational programmes under supervision of excellent medical academicians. Simultaneously this institute is committed to provide quality health services to the people in its teaching hospital .
The instate’s present curriculum and future educational programmnes are need based ,integrated, community oriented and which will be supportive in production of socially health work force . They will be able to provide high quality medical care in not only Nepal but all over the world .
The teaching hospital of the college is located in its own buildings at Sinamangal. The new OPD at Sinamagal was opened in December 2000 and has been providing emergency and indoor services from the first of March 2001 .The hospital has at present 700 beds in these new premises including private wards.
In addition to OPD and inpatient services, the college provides facilities, which include:
1.Twenty-four hour pathological laboratory services
2.Twenty-four hours X-ray and C.T. Scan facility
3.Twenty-four hours Emergency Services
4.Ultrasound
5.ECG,EEG,ECHO
6.TMT,Spirometer,Audiogram
7.Colonoscopy,Colposcopy,Cystoscopy
8.Laryngoscopy,Arthoscopy,C-Arm
9.Endospocy,Bronchoscopy,Flexible Endospopy
10.Bronchoscopy services
11.Laproscopy
12.Minor and major operating facilities. Nine OT including one in Emergency
13.ICU/CCU,NICU
14.Operates a number of special clinics in different specialities:

Recognition by different bodies
KMC was fully recognised bt the Nepal Medical council at its 19th /2060 General Executive Meeting on 20th Feb.2004 In July 2002 the Sir Lanka Medical Council gave provisional recognition to Kathmandu Medical College. Later the Sri Lanka Medical Council gave full recognition on 19th March, 2004 after this was given by the Nepal Medical Council. Kathmandu University changed the affiliation of KMC from temporary to permanent on 16th April 2004.
Kathmandu Medical college has also been listed in WHO’s World Directory of Medical Schools –Electronic format as from june 2002.
In August,2003,the Kathmandu Medical College was listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). As a result of this the KMC are eligible to sit for the USMLE examination.
MBBS Graduates of KMC are eligible for limted registration in the UK and can sit for the PLAB Test.
Same as the College of Physician and Surgeions of Pakistan (CPSP) accredited KMC in January 2008 for training for the Fellowship in the areas of Anaesthesia,Medicine,Obs/Gyane,paediatrics and Surgery.
Working experience
The working experience of Kathmandu Medical College Teaching Hospital (KMCTH) is recognised to enable doctors to sit in the post graduate entrance examinations. The Royal College of Surgeons (UK) has recognised the experience in Medicine at KMC Teaching hospital as being acceptable for entry to the Final Assessment of the Membership examination in Accident and Emergency Medicine and Surgry.
Plan for the immediate future:
The hospital plans to add the following facilities:
•A neurosurgical unit
•An adolescent guidance and treatment unit
•Geriatric ward
•An urology unit

KMC will also be purchasing more college and hospital equipment as part of our objective to make this institute a modern state of the art establishment.

Staff
all departments of KMC both basic and clinical sciences are adequately staffed. At present KMC has a total of 605 people employed of which 101 are in various teaching faculties,10 B.SC. Nursing faculties,7 non-faculty teaching staff, 57 are Clinical Staff, 139 nursing staff,54 teaching staff 80 administrative staff and 157 utility and subordinate staff To upgrade the quality of its staff and to meet its future requirement the college has sponsored its staff for training and postgraduate studies. Of the sixteen supported so far, 13 have completed their studies and are working with us.
KMC COMMUNITY HOSPITAL
The KMC Community Hospital started in feburary 2003, when daily health service facilities began at the KMC health clinic in Duwakot. House officer of the different departments and some interns went there for doing community posting. As from February 2004, this facility was shifted to the basic sciences building in the form of a daily clinic conducted by a MD/GP assisted by House officers of different grades. A separate building for a 70-bedded primary care hospital was constructed in 2005 to take care of the health needs of the local population. The foundation laying ceremony of this building, which houses the Community Hospital was laid on April 22nd (10thBaisakh) by Dr. Puskarnath Panta, chairman of KMC on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. As from February 19th 2005 the KMC Community Hospital had a “soft opening” in a separate building in the Basic Science Complex.

Objectives of KMC
Generally, objectives of the hospital may be different according to nature and size because government nature hospital is to provide health service with out profit but private nature hospital is guided with service with profit. So KMC as the private nature hospital has got the following objectives:
1.It enhances its capacity to produce high quality manpower.
2.Collaborate and coordinate with medical schools of other universities for the growth and development of academic programmes,research undertaking and health care services.
3.Promate and conduct research for the growth of new scientific knowledge.
4.Participate and provide health care to the people.
5.To provide quality medical education within modern academic environment.
6.To deveklop socially accountable health work force in the nation through its educational programmes.
7.It is committed to provide quality health services to the people in its teaching hospital.

Needs and Significant of the KMC
The KMC has got the following needs:
1.To create a socially accountable health work force in a nation through its educational programmes under supervision excellent medical academicians.
2.As to proved quality health care to entire human society.
3.To maintain the good relation having cooperation and team sprit among the staff.
4.To achieve the goal by untiring effort for improvement in the health facility to the people of nation.
5.To generate capable and able medical professional.
6.To strengthen healthy social relationships and improve the quality of life in the society.
7.To develop the institute into a center of excellence.
8.To enhance the health status of people by conducting the free heath camps.
