The Breaking Point (1950 film)
The Breaking Point is the second film adaptation of the Ernest Hemingway novel To Have and Have Not. The film, directed by Michael Curtiz, is considered to be considerably more faithful to the novel than the 1944 version starring Humphrey Bogart.
The Gun Runners, a 1958 film directed by Don Siegel, is the second remake of To Have and Have Not (1944) and stars Audie Murphy in the Bogart/Garfield role and Everett Sloane in Walter Brennan's part as the alcoholic sidekick, although Sloane's interpretation was less overtly comedic than Brennan's.

The two other main actors, Phyllis Thaxter and Juano Hernandez, contribute exemplary work as well providing terrific support. Phyllis and Particia Neal are interesting contrasts and their scene together is a study in underplaying. Her scenes with Garfield are also very good, without being explicit they make it clear theirs is a full and happy marriage in all regards with the normal strains and joys.
