It allows the sharing of resources such as disk storage, printers, image scanners, modems and central servers.It allows sharing of information held on disk accessible by all users.

yes and networking not only helps to share disks and files, it also is the must threat of viruses. Internet is also an example of networking and it is the biggest place of spreading virus.
