The Phoenix Lights

On the night of March 13, 1997, a Phoenix man named Tim Ley and his family looked north out the windows of their Phoenix home and saw an array of unusual lights in the sky that seemed to be moving in their direction. As they watched, the array flew directly over them, and they got a good look at what appeared to be an enormous V-shaped craft, several city blocks across.

As Ley's wife Bobbi later told CNN, it was an overwhelming sight, but somehow, they were not frightened. "It didn't seem threatening," she recalled. "… When it was right overhead and we couldn't hear a sound, it was like you're just awestruck." Hundreds of other witnesses saw the strange lights, including two journalists from the alternative weekly New Times, who each were in separate parts of the area but gave remarkably similar descriptions of a V-shape with five bright, yellow-white lights moving north to south.
